Answer Job Interview Questions in English with the STAR Method

Behavioural interview questions ask what you did in a real situation. A simple structure helps you give enough context, describe your contribution and show the result.

Build a small story bank

Choose four to six experiences that show teamwork, problem-solving, communication, leadership or learning. For each, record facts you can discuss confidently.

Use Situation, Task, Action and Result as a planning frame. The action section should focus on what you did, not only what the team did.

Make the result specific

A result can be an outcome, a lesson or a measurable improvement. If there is no number, explain what changed and why it mattered.

Keep details truthful and appropriate to share. Do not reveal confidential employer, client or patient information in a practice response.

  • Situation: enough context to understand the challenge.
  • Task: your responsibility.
  • Action: the choices and steps you took.
  • Result: outcome and learning.

Practise for flexibility

Say each story aloud in one minute and two minutes. This prevents a rigid script and helps you choose the right amount of detail.

After practice, use the Writing Checker on a written outline for structure signals, then focus speaking practice on clarity, pacing and natural follow-up answers.
